Sony Firmware Updates for BURANO, FX6, VENICE 2, FR7 and a7S III Announced

Sony has announced a series of new free firmware updates for its professional camera lineup, including BURANO, FX6, VENICE 2, FR7, and a7S III. The updates expand recording capabilities, improve user interfaces, and add new tracking and processing features. The announcement was made during BSC Expo 2026 in London.
Sony FX6 – Firmware Version 6.0
The FX6 receives the new “Big Six” home screen interface, aligning it with other Cinema Line cameras. It now supports Blackmagic RAW output via SDI to compatible external recorders. The update also improves on-screen layout and overall usability.
Sony BURANO – Firmware Version 3.0
BURANO gains additional anamorphic shooting modes, including new sensor readout options such as 6×5. High frame rate recording is expanded, allowing 4K up to 120 fps in both Super 35 and Full Frame modes. Improvements were also made to optical low-pass filter control for better infrared handling in challenging lighting conditions.
Sony VENICE 2 – Firmware Version 4.1
VENICE 2 now includes EL Zone exposure visualization as an alternative to traditional false color. The update also supports the VENICE 2 Mini Extension System, enabling a more compact configuration while retaining the 8K sensor performance.
Sony FR7 – Firmware Version 4.0
The FR7 receives enhanced AI-based subject tracking, allowing it to continue tracking even when a subject’s face is temporarily obscured. It also adds support for OpenTrackIO, an open standard used in virtual production environments. Tracking capabilities are further improved for sports and multi-camera setups.
Sony a7S III – Firmware Version 5.0
The a7S III update introduces expanded autofocus customization options. It also adds image authenticity certification for still photographs, embedding metadata to verify image origin. Video authenticity support is available on other Sony models but is currently limited to still images on the a7S III.
All firmware updates are free and will be available for download through Sony’s official support website.
