Sony Announces Alpha 7R VI Camera and FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS Lens

Sony Electronics has announced two new products for professional imaging: the Alpha 7R VI full-frame mirrorless camera and the FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS super-telephoto zoom lens. Both are expected to be available in June 2026.

“The Alpha 7R series stands for image quality you can trust on screen, in print, and in the most demanding conditions. The Alpha 7R VI takes that further with the speed, intelligence, battery life, and viewfinder quality our creators have been asking for. Every decision strengthens what this series does best and makes it work harder for the people who rely on it,” says Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics.

“Our creators want super-telephoto reach with G Master optical quality in a body light enough to shoot handheld all day. The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS delivers constant F4.5 aperture, dramatically faster autofocus, and a build that keeps up with the user’s instincts, whether tracking a bird in flight or working the sideline at a championship match,” says Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics.

Alpha 7R VI — $4,499.99 USD / $5,999.99 CAD

The Alpha 7R VI features a 66.8-megapixel full-frame fully-stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor paired with the new BIONZ XR2 engine, delivering up to 16 stops of dynamic range and blackout-free continuous shooting at up to approximately 30 fps with 60 AF/AE calculations per second. Five-axis optical image stabilization delivers up to 8.5 stops of compensation.

Video capabilities include 8K 30p recording with 8.2K oversampling, full-frame 4K 60p and 120p without crop, and Dual Gain Shooting for reduced noise. When paired with the new XLR-A4 adaptor, the camera supports 32-bit float audio internal recording. The camera also supports Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution using the C2PA standard for verification that images and videos were captured in-camera rather than AI-generated.

Additional features include a 9.44M dot OLED viewfinder with DCI-P3 color gamut and 10-bit HDR, a new NP-SA100 high-capacity battery supporting up to 710 still images, dual USB Type-C ports, and effective heat management for uninterrupted 8K recording up to 120 minutes.

XLR-A4 XLR Adaptor — $779.99 USD / $1,089.99 CAD

The XLR-A4 supports up to 4-channel digital audio recording at 96kHz 32-bit float on compatible cameras, connecting XLR microphones and 3.5mm stereo mini jack microphones via the Multi Interface Shoe. It also functions as a 96kHz 24-bit 2-channel audio interface when connected to a PC.

Optional Accessories for Alpha 7R VI

  • NP-SA100 Battery: $119.99 USD / $169.99 CAD
  • Vertical Grip VG-C6: $459.99 USD / $649.99 CAD
  • Battery Charger BC-SAD1: $139.99 USD / $199.99 CAD
  • DC Coupler DC-C2: $149.99 USD / $209.99 CAD

FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS — $4,299.99 USD / $5,599.99 CAD

The FE 100-400mm F4.5 GM OSS covers a 100–400mm focal range with a constant F4.5 maximum aperture and delivers autofocus up to approximately 3x faster than the previous FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS, with approximately 50% improved subject tracking. Four XD Linear Motors and a floating focus mechanism power the AF system, which is fully compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s continuous shooting at up to 120 fps.

The optical design features newly developed ED XA, XA, two Super ED, and three ED glass elements, along with Nano AR Coating II and an 11-blade circular aperture. An inner-zoom design maintains constant length and stable balance throughout the zoom range. The lens weighs approximately 65 oz. (1,840 g) and is compatible with 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for focal lengths up to 800mm or 1,200mm in APS-C mode. Built-in stabilization supports Active Mode and coordinates with compatible camera bodies.
