Sony’s Version 2.00 update for the Sony a7 V adds the ability to record 32-bit float audio when using the new Sony XLR-A4 adapter.

The XLR-A4 adapter ($778 USD) provides:

  • 4-channel audio recording
  • 32-bit float recording
  • 96 kHz sampling rate
  • simultaneous recording with video
  • the ability to save a separate WAV file directly in-camera

  • Designed for the a7R VI camera
  • Supports 96 kHz sampling and 32-bit float
  • 2 combo XLR/1/4″ inputs
  • 1 x 3.5 mm microphone input
  • Dual ADCs and four-channel input
  • Separate in-camera WAV file recording
  • Secure mounting via the Multi Interface Shoe
  • Integrated microphone holder

An integrated noise reference microphone has also been added to improve background noise reduction when using either the built-in or an external microphone.

Firmware Version 2.00 Features

  • Enables high-quality audio recording (96 kHz, 32-bit float) when the XLR-A4 adapter is attached to the Multi Interface Shoe
  • Adds support for the Preset Focus function with lenses that do not have power zoom
  • Some zoom lenses without power zoom are not supported
  • Displays focal length with one decimal point precision
  • Allows simultaneous image deletion and rating for files stored on memory card slots 1 and 2
  • Displays folder names and file names during playback
  • Allows cancellation of scheduled transfers for selected images during FTP transfer

New Transfer & Tagging Features

  • Automatic scheduling of FTP transfer for protected still images via FTP Import
  • Automatic FTP transfer scheduling for protected photos and videos via FTP Upload Preset
  • Automatic protection of images transferred through FTP
  • Support for SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) server configuration

The latest version of the Transfer & Tagging setting is required.

Additional Features

  • Support for the Write Digital Signature function for videos as part of Sony’s Camera Authenticity Solution
  • Support for Scan and Tag, Photo Cropping, and Volume Photography Commands through the Volume Photography License
  • A paid license is required for these features
  • License availability is expected from late May 2026

Changes and Fixes

  • Lens firmware updates via memory card are no longer supported
  • Lens firmware must now be updated using Windows or Mac software tools
  • Fixes an issue where movie recording might fail when using the ECM-M1 microphone
  • Improves the overall operational stability of the camera
