The Sony A7 IV is a full-frame hybrid camera with a 33 MP CMOS sensor and support for 4K/60 fps video recording. It features AI-based autofocus, 5-axis optical image stabilization, and a continuous shooting speed of 10 fps.

The BIONZ XR processor, also used in the flagship α1 and a7S III models, speeds up processing by 8 times. The processor is focused on real-time autofocus processing, image recognition, and image quality adjustment to minimize delay and enhance video and photo processing performance. Working processes responsible for user interface operation, networking, and file management are distributed to ensure quick camera response regardless of the current load.

The clear advantages of the new 33.0 MP sensor and processor go beyond mere numbers. They deliver soft, natural textures of human skin, stunning levels of detail in landscapes and scenes, as well as improved color reproduction and higher resolution of each subject, thanks to updated algorithms. The standard ISO sensitivity range of 100–51200 can be expanded to ISO 50–204800 for still photography and ISO 100–102400 for video recording, providing low-noise performance.

The α7 IV camera offers photo encoding in HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) format in addition to regular RAW and JPEG. Smooth 10-bit gradations ensure a more realistic representation of skies and portraits, while 10-bit color depth minimizes quality degradation during editing. HEIF photos taken in HLG mode can be played back on compatible BRAVIA 4K televisions via HDMI connection, producing images with an extremely wide dynamic range.

Thanks to the experience gained in developing the VENICE CineAlta camera, the α7 IV now features support for the S-Cinetone function. This function, known for its beautiful skin tones, has gained wide recognition in Cinema Line cameras such as the FX9, FX6, and FX3. S-Cinetone provides natural mid-tones for healthy-looking skin, as well as soft colors and gorgeous highlights. Since this function is built into the camera, you can easily achieve an expressive image in the frame without the need for post-processing.

The built-in Soft Skin Effect gently hides wrinkles, pigmentation, and dullness while maintaining naturalness around the eyes and mouth. Complementing the capabilities of the full-frame sensor, this feature can enhance the attractiveness of both live broadcasts and photos and videos. Four parameter levels are available, allowing you to adjust the effect according to your preference.

The fast hybrid autofocus combines phase-detection and contrast-detection AF and achieves precise focusing even on small subjects or people in low-light conditions. With 75918 phase-detection AF points and 425 contrast-detection AF points, it provides a wide and dense coverage, spanning approximately 94% of the photo and video frame area. The latest powerful real-time processor analyzes this vast amount of data, delivering impressive autofocus performance.

With touch tracking, you can easily select an object to track on the LCD screen with just a touch, even when using the viewfinder, and intuitively control autofocus during both still photography and video recording.
